More and more people are working longer and longer hours for someone else. They believe that if they work hard enough and do as they’re told, maybe someday, they’ll get a corner office and make a lot of money.
I’m talking about the 9-5 in corporate America. Of course, some people make it into these offices, but sometimes not by skill, talent, or even luck. But by favoritism and nepotism.
You cannot escape these things in corporate America. Sometimes people will back stab and brown nose to climb higher on invisible ladders. And most of them have hit glass ceilings.
Good news is, more and more people are have wised up and made money online for themselves.
There are many other ways to make money online, such as eCommerce with Ebay/ Amazon FBA or freelancing. But starting a blog is a great start.
In this post, I’m going to talk about why you should quit your 9-5 ASAP.
You’re Never Going to Get Rich Working For Someone Else
That’s right. Why should someone pay you more? You’re cutting into their profits if you’re asking for a raise or promotion.
And you had better have a great explanation as to why you deserve more, especially if you have been under-performing.
The only way to get a raise or promotion these days is to jump ship to another job. Many people do this and have seen a significant increase in their income.
No Job Security
Back a few decades ago, some corporations had great programs for their employees that gave them great benefits. It’s difficult to find these companies anymore.
If there is a company acquisition or merger going on, expect layoffs. No job is safe.
Many Future Jobs Will Be Automated
Driverless trucks are coming soon and flying drones are already here. What can you do about it? If you’re a truck driver, you’ll have to find another job soon.
I’ve also seen many banks and fast-food restaurants have begun replacing people with kiosks.
Politics, Brown Nosing, and Water Cooler Bullshit
Someone is going to take all the credit for the hard work that you did one day. You might even get blamed for something that you never even worked on. That’s office politics.
Brown nosing may be the worst offense of all. Nobody respects them and they’re usually seen around the water cooler, talking about things you don’t care about.
I leave this one for last because it’s the most important.
You’re never completely free working for someone else. Sure, you get weekends off, but sometimes on Sundays, you dread the coming Monday. You are not free.
Real freedom is doing what you want when you want.
Sure, you’re going to have customers working for yourself. But remember that you can always fire them. You can’t do that working for someone else.
These are the reasons why you try to leave the 9-5 and work for yourself ASAP. Life is going to become more meaningful and you’ll feel like you’re actually making a difference.
Here’s a quote for you: “I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.”
